Rail link to Alaska via Canada proposed by U S and Britain
A possible railroad from Prince George to Fairbanks would connect with the Alaskan Railroad and run 3 000 miles of new track. Early estimates cited 200 million dollars in 1942 while newer British Columbian plans focus on extending the Pacific Great Eastern to Prince George and linking to Squamish. Engineers favor the Rocky Mountain trench for milder weather and easy crossing.
