IRS guidance on theft deductions retirement savings and housing credit
Taxpayers may deduct personal theft losses beyond a $100 floor, reduced by insurance, and reported on Schedule A or Form 4797 depending on use and duration of the property. The Pension Reform Act allows nonself employed individuals to set up a retirement savings program with deductible contributions, while a retroactive housing credit update lets buyers qualify if the seller certifies the lowest price after Feb 28, 1975 and construction began before Mar 26, 1975.
