Merit System Caucus Deliberates City Rules for Civil Service
City officials and department heads met to review a tentative draft of merit system regulations set to operate October 1. The draft covers eligibility, vacations, sick leave, work periods, job descriptions and classifications, ratings, overtime, and related factors. Mayor Derr presided. Byron W. Thompson led the briefing with input from the Personnel Commission and Aldermen.

Cable Service Restored After Boonsboro Fire
A fire destroyed Leo H. Cronise’s apple packing shed at Boonsboro cutting Western Maryland telephone and telegraph lines. Limited service was restored by Hagerstown crews overnight with full repairs planned today. Apples and a peach grader valued at 1500 were lost. Cronise lacked fire insurance. Fire started around 6 pm and is blamed on a discarded cigarette.
