Land Owner Angered By Road Improvement
Baltimore Sept A landowner Rear Admiral Henry Williams whose farm runs along Route 65 objects to widening the old Hagerstown Sharpsburg turnpike. He argues a new road along the Norfolk and Western right of way could be cheaper. State Roads Commissioner Russell H McCain calls the idea ridiculous and says repairs will proceed. The plan widens the 11 foot road to 24 feet, acquires more rights of way and removes stone fences and trees. First phase covers about six and a half miles south from Lappans with further work toward Hagerstown. No major upgrades since 1930.
