Moscow Blend Of Old And New Impresses Visitor
A Moscow visitor notices stark contrasts between Soviet grandeur and daily life. A taxi breaks down beside a steel monument to space, Red Square gleams with Lenin's tomb, and a Kremlin banner proclaims party glory. Ordinary scenes of shoppers, families, soldiers, and police passages reveal both awe and routine in postwar Soviet life.

VIPS Leave Washington To Tourists In Summer
An AP report notes the capital slows in July and August as embassies, officials, and visitors retreat. Humprey enjoys a melon at a banquet while ambassadors flee to the hills, Newport, Rome, or incognito travel. The White House tour line grows long and hours extend at the Washington Monument as summer life in D.C. centers on informal gatherings and open air events.
