NATO Airstrikes Press Serbs to Pull Back Guns Near Sarajevo

NATO resumed air attacks on Tuesday to force Bosnian Serbs to move artillery away from Sarajevo. U N and Pentagon officials said about 80 US warplanes took part with aircraft from Aviano and the USS Theodore Roosevelt. The strikes targeted ammunition depots and communications facilities, while U N forces aided in destroying a Serb mortar south of the city. Ratko Mladic offered a unilateral cease fire but refused to withdraw heavy weapons. Western sources noted weather limited operations and that the campaign aims to stop civilian shelling by pressuring disengagement of at least 120 miles from Sarajevo.
