Switch Tampering Delays Southern Railway Palm Limited
In Jacksonville Florida on September 6 a suspected wrecking caused several cars to derail near the yard as the northbound Palm Limited toward Cincinnati passed. The engine and mail car cleared the switch while about six following cars derailed but remained upright with no injuries reported. Railroad officials say a hacksaw severed the switch, though track supervisors later found the mechanism in good condition after inspecting it at 7 PM.
