Play to six hearts hinges on clever safety line
In a six heart contract, East’s spade lead creates danger if trump play continues. Harry Fishbein in a recent match used a safety play by discarding the six of hearts from dummy after winning the first trick with the ace of spades. East took a heart with seven, but that was the defenders’ last trick. declarer then seized all remaining trumps and claimed the slam as Fishbein’s line protected against any defense.
