First Heats In Air Races At Frederick Today
The Washington National Air Races at Frederick Municipal Airport begin with first heat races in three divisions Formula 190, sports bi plane and Ladies Stock. Semi finals are scheduled for tomorrow and finals Monday as about 30 000 spectators are expected. Steve Wittman posted the top early time in Formula 190 with 194 mph aboard Bonzo, followed by Bob Downey and other pilots. Tjamsville Soldier Killed in Viet Nam War
A 2-year resident of Tjamsville, Pfc. Robert Henry Lerner, died of shrapnel wounds as a rifleman with the 25th Infantry Division in South Vietnam. He was the sixth Frederick County resident to die in the Vietnam conflict. Lerner, a former Marine sergeant, had sought combat duty and had letters describing his experiences. Funeral services will be held in Philadelphia with burial there. He leaves his parents, sister, brother, and maternal grandparents.
