Wall Street Extends Broad Advance On Thursday Gains
New York stocks rose as the Dow gained about 33 points to around 1,971. The broad market strengthened with eight of nine NYSE issues higher and gains mirrored in the American and over the counter markets. Overseas markets also advanced, with Tokyo up sharply and London and Hong Kong posting notable gains. Analysts noted the market's rebound from last week's drop, while caution remained about the dollar and inflation. Traders described a steadier, though tired, mood amid ongoing heavy trading and potential weekend work by NYSE staff.
