Brush Fires Keep Men On Alert In Howard County and Brunswick
Local volunteers fought several brush fires yesterday across Howard County and Brunswick. An acre of woods and part of a corn field owned by H. L. Wessel burned on A. E. Mullinix Road near Lisbon. Fire alarms varied from 3 to 6:42 p.m. as crews from Mt. Airy, Lisbon, Brunswick and New Market responded and residents aided in control as winds fanned the flames. A small scorch near Sixth Street in Brunswick involved about 50 square feet with cause undetermined. An area along tracks near Sjamsville and another at Thurmont saw minor damage while residents helped in extinguishing. A late Sunday barn fire on the Stansberry Estate drew attention but caused little damage. In Emmitsburg, Vigilant Hose Company fought a late case with no major loss.
