Socialite Killed and Negro Arrested in Midland
Mrs. Fred Turner a member of a Southwestern oil family was bludgeoned to death in her dressing room. A Negro youth, James L. Marion 20 of Midland, was arrested cowering in a storeroom attic two blocks away after admitting the killing. He had $104 in cash and a pistol when taken in. The arrest followed more than seven hours after the murder.

Motorists Convicted In Speed Violation Hearings
A 27 year old Boyds man Richard Francis Wade was found guilty of failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision and fined 25 dollars and costs in a Maryland Magistrates Court. Wade’s car rear ended a Brunswick police car driven by Herbert Sperry near Potomac Avenue and Park Avenue in Brunswick. Wade’s attorney challenged the charge but the motion was denied and an appeal noted. Also acquitted was Eldred Tinder of Baltimore on the same charge after colliding with Mildred Frye’s car on U.S. 40 near Frederick. Tinder cited another car in front swerving. Edwin F. Nikirk defended Tinder. Robert Schuman of North Linthicum was found guilty of exceeding 50 mph on U.S. 340 south of Jefferson. Trooper C. Ronald Twigg and Radar operator Scott W. B. English led the case.
