Blacks Mill Road Bridge Closed for Winter in Thurmont

Frederick County engineers shut the 1910 Blacks Mill Road Bridge near Thurmont for the winter after corrosion and deteriorating bottom cord sections raised safety concerns. About 200 county bridges were inspected last week, revealing corrosion weakening structural members and additional problems. The one lane wooden span is expected to require more repairs than initially planned.

Eastalco Donates Videotapes to Frederick County Schools

Eastalco Aluminum Co donated eight videotapes to Frederick County public schools on Friday to showcase recent technology advances in chemistry physics biology medicine and the environment The gift marks the sixth consecutive year of such donations to local schools and will be housed at the Instructional Media Center for countywide teacher access.
