Drought shrinks Maryland pumpkin harvest for Halloween
Maryland pumpkin production fell 40 to 50 percent due to drought heat and hurricane damage, with about 261 farms statewide. Top producers are Baltimore and Harford counties, while retailers report softer, later, and smaller pumpkins, including rare varieties, pushing shoppers to three store trips for suitable carvings.
