Aboriginal civil servant backs Rabuka republic move
Charlie Perkins, Australia’s leading aboriginal official, says Fiji’s Col Rabuka is doing right and that if he seeks a republic he should have it. Perkins blames Indians and Asians for harming aboriginals and argues for ending ties with the monarchy. He recalls a harsh upbringing, education at Sydney University, and a political stance seen by some as controversial within his community.
