Roving dogs trigger three vehicle crash on I-70 Westbound

On I-70 near NJAMSVILLE several dogs ran across the westbound lanes causing a three vehicle wreck. Don Koonce of Baltimore braked to avoid them, Chris Main of Mount Airy skidded into the Ford, and James Maddy of Denton, towing a boat, failed to stop and collided with Main’s van. The boat blocked two lanes. no charges were filed.

Scouts Help Clear New Park in Mount Airy

Mayor Gerald Johnson joined about a dozen Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 1271 to clean and prune the future Wildwood Park at Ridge and Park Avenues. Developer Mike Berman is donating the 2 to 3 acre site for town use after a senior housing project is finished. A Scout suffered a minor eyelid scratch, while others collected acorns and hoped for walking paths and gazebos.

Death penalty trial set in Maryland slaying of elderly couple

Russell Wayne Wagner, 43, is scheduled for a three week death penalty trial in Garrett County Circuit Court on charges of two counts of first degree murder two counts of felony murder and one count of burglary for the February 1994 killings of Daniel and Wilda Davis in their Hagerstown home. The victims were found bound and stabbed after Wagner, who knew the couple, reportedly gained entry on February 14 1994 and robbed the house.

Thunderstorms and hail hit multiple states with strong winds

The Associated Press reports storms across Arkansas and Missouri produced golf ball sized hail and 60 mph winds that toppled a mobile home in Sardis Ark. The system brought heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and potential tornadoes across the East Coast to the Midwest with temperatures ranging from 25 to 82 degrees in various locations.

Boy 14 hurt making pipe bomb in Maryland home

A 14 year old boy building a pipe bomb exploded injuring both hands in front of his house near a shed in Taneytown Maryland. Deputy state fire marshal Ted Meminger said the youth learned bomb making from a CBS program and was airlifted to Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. The incident is under investigation.

Rain and wind on the horizon in Frederick

Forecasters warn of rainy and breezy weather with possible thunderstorms Friday night and mild temperatures in the 50s. Thursday peaked at 57 at the Sound Source station atop the News-Post building. Saturday looks cooler with early showers, then variable clouds and brisk mid to upper 50s. The extended outlook shows scattered showers Sunday with lows mid 30s to 40s and highs mid 40s to 50s.
