Frederick Area to Get Dial Equipment and New Building
The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Baltimore plans a 1.5 million dollar project in Frederick to install dial equipment and expand facilities. A new brick building at 33 St Patrick Street will house the equipment, plus poles wiring and underground cables to boost service as demand grows. The project aims for completion in Spring 1953 pending material availability and will include a larger switchboard to handle predicted long distance traffic. Demand has surged from 4,300 to about 7,700 telephones as two thirds of Frederick families now have service, up from ten years ago.
