1500 Evacuated After Gas Leak at Chemical Plant

Bogalusa Louisiana reports a rail car ruptured spilling nitrogen tetroxide, creating a large poisonous cloud. About 1,500 residents were evacuated with hundreds hospitalized for burning throats and shortness of breath. Blind hawk stolen from Meadowside Nature Center

A protected Cooper's hawk named Milton was cut from his cage at the Meadowside Nature Center in Derwood Maryland police report says. The blind bird with sunken eye and fading color is described as medium gray on the back and brown and white on the belly and wore jesses. The theft likely occurred during the evening of October 14 and was discovered at feeding time the next day. Police seek tips by calling Sgt. Steve Tucker at 301 949 3010.

Frederick street resurfacing schedule and alley closures

Frederick city crews will resurface streets and alleys in an annual maintenance project. Work runs Oct 24 to Oct 26 with West Seventh from Military Road to Taney, Chapel and Maxwell Alleys, and Matter from West Seventh to West Street plus Kinnehart’s Alley. West Seventh Street and Avenue will stay open in sections. Local traffic only on Chapel, Maxwell, and Kinnehart’s alleys. motorists advised to expect delays and follow traffic control devices. A separate arrest report notes 19 year old M Taylor charged with felony theft for stealing a bicycle on South Carroll Street and held at Frederick County Recreation Center in lieu of $400 bond. Gerald Bowen assisted in the chase along Carroll Street.

Fire log details multiple calls including house and building fires

A 24 hour fire log lists calls from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. including a house fire at 12209 Timber Run Court and automated alarms at Fort Detrick. A low pressure system moved across Wisconsin bringing strong winds and fresh snow to the Plains and upper Midwest. Reynolds seeks sentence cut for murder and robbery

Jeremiah Reynolds, 18, who pled guilty to third degree murder and felony robbery, seeks to reduce a 10 to 20 year murder sentence and a concurrent 10 to 20 year term. Fred erick forecasts call for clear skies and sunshine today through Thursday with only a slight chance of a light sprinkle tonight. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s, lows in the mid 40s to 60s, with midweek temperatures in the 60s and gradual cooling into Friday and Saturday. Monday recorded a high of 70 degrees at 3 30 p m and a low of 42 degrees at 6 a m at the Sound Source Weather Station atop the News Post building in downtown Frederick.

City man arrested on cocaine charges

Frederick police arrested Tony Heldore a 25 year old man from Motter Avenue on drug charges after officers found three racks of crack cocaine in a wad of towels removed from a soft drink vending machine. Heldore is held on $50,000 bail.
