County budget hearings draw no public attendance
Public hearings on the 1964 short year budgets were held in the County Commissioners office this morning but attracted no attendees. Seven departments sought a total of 120,229.39 dollars, with large requests from the Assessment Office 27,137.34 dollars the Treasurer 26,304.32 dollars the Trial Magistrates 25,004.05 dollars and the Board of Election Supervisors 22,895 dollars.

Health Wants New Workers for County Health Dept
Frederick County Health Department seeks seven new staffers including three nurses a school physician a sanitarian a clerk and a clerk typist. Budget for six months starting January 1 totals 147016 with county share 79357 and a five percent overall increase excluding merit salary raises. Dr Burgess says department understaffed under American Public Health standards and notes county medical society support for a part time school health nurse to coordinate school health work.

County Man Commits Death by Own Action
A 51 year old Unionville man shot himself in the head with a shotgun at his home. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the county medical examiner. Investigating officer says he was found in the basement by a neighbor around 10 am with a .410 gauge shotgun nearby. He is survived by his wife Kathryn and a married daughter.

The Mt Olive Apple Orchards owned by Gerald E Wise were sold to George Carlin of Bethesda for about $40,000. The 240 acre tract on New Windsor Road west of Md 31 at Edgewood includes the main house tenant house and outbuildings. The Wises bought the orchard in July 1960 from the East Central Fruit Growers Production Credit Association.
