China’s Membership Hope Buried By U N
The U N General Assembly rejected Red China's claim to a seat and upheld Nationalist China’s credentials after a vote on October 21. Ten nations opposed Red China, with 35 in favor and three abstentions. The Soviets and allies joined the dissent as the Assembly postponed further action until November 2. Krishna Menon’s intervention proved too late to alter the outcome.
