Soroptimist Founders Day Observed at Frederick Club Dinner
Soroptimists of Frederick County marked Founders Day at a dinner in the Wedgwood Room of the Francis Scott Key Hotel. Grace Harp Spurrier traced the club history from 1921 Oakland California, noting Soroptimism’s growth, youth, and nonpartisan civic emphasis. President Hazel Caldwell, delegates Ada Sperry and Louise Sebold reported on the South Atlantic Region convention in Winston Salem, with talks by Rev. Clifford H. Peace on heritage and choice. The spring conference is set for April 23-24 at Old Point Comfort Virginia, after pledge and roll call. Bonnie Dale Caplan attended as a guest.

Rodgers recovers at home after heart ailment
Emmitsburg resident Thorn ton W. Rodgers is recuperating at his home from a heart ailment after a three week stay at Warner Hospital. He returned home Saturday. The infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Curtis Topper received the Sacrament of Baptism at St Josephs Church on Sunday afternoon. Godparents were Mrs Arthur Starner and Earl Topper. Baby girl named Susan Ann. Mr and Mrs John Joy moved from Grant Long property to an apartment of Mrs Mabert Hoffman on West Main Street as the Longs sold their property.

Heart Study Reports Optimistic View On Surviving First Heart Attacks
New York researchers analyzed 611 coronary thrombosis cases in New York hospitals and found only 34 percent died during three to six weeks of hospitalization, lower than expected. Recovery prospects for uncomplicated first heart attacks were similar for elderly and younger patients, while the 60 percent death rate among 707 poor risk cases remained high. Doctors noted age seems not to strongly influence survival in similar attacks and warned against overly pessimistic prognoses. The study, reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association, urges a more hopeful but cautious attitude toward patients recovering from heart attacks.
