We Lost Friends by Misreading a World of Change
A New York Times item discusses U.S. public diplomacy failures as Governor Thomas E. Dewey reflects on Asia and the loss of China to Communism. It argues for understanding Asian cultures and supporting Asia for Asians over replicating American models to win soft power. A separate note on draft regulation protests highlights the defense value of deferring college-bound youths. The piece ends with a set of autumn questions about nature and seasonal changes.
