Maryland Officials Lead Nation In State Salary Levels
Maryland top officials command the nation s highest pay for their roles with Governor Schaefer at 120 000 a year in a City & State survey. Treasurer Lucille Maurer earns 100 000 topping the state treasurer scale while Economic Development Secretary Mark Wasserman makes 106 372. Budget chief Charles Benson Jr. earns 105 215. Some lawmakers seek across the board cuts to ease the budget crunch citing the high salaries. Maryland officials defend pay as fair given duties and market standards.
