Government Cuts Rubber Use In Tires
Washington reports the government orders an 8 25 per cent cut in natural rubber use by tire and rubber companies effective November 1, reducing consumption to 75 per cent of the prior 12 month average. A further 63 per cent cut is planned for December. The order limits total new rubber use to 84 per cent of the prior year’s monthly average and restricts latex to one fourth of base-year consumption. Importers must offer at least 10 per cent of latex shipments to the governments stockpile via GSA. NPA to handle synthetic rubber allocation.

Frederick Area to Lose Power Sunday for Repairs
Frederick will lose power for about three and a half hours Sunday as work continues on revamping the local distribution system. Potomac Edison District Manager R L Smith said a major portion of the eastern city south of East Fourth Street and east of East Street will be cut over from 1 p m to 4 30 p m with a map published in The News. Affected customers have been notified. The project aims to boost capacity from 2 000 to 4 000 volts and increase substation capacity, greatly improving supply.

Two cars were damaged in an accident on South Market street about six o'clock Thursday evening. E. J. Fontaine's coupe northbound struck a parked sedan owned by Bernard E. Eyler. Damages were about 150 dollars total. Fontaine was charged with reckless driving and posted 11.45 dollars collateral. Ambulances were sent.

Warnings rise as second Gulf hurricane nears Florida
Hurricane warnings were hoisted along Florida west coast from Fort Myers to Cedar Key at 12 30 p m as a second storm of the week bore down from the Gulf of Mexico with winds near 90 mph. A violent hurricane had swept in from the Atlantic over Miami late Tuesday and Wednesday with 125 mph winds causing three deaths about 100 injuries and $15 to $20 million in damage leaving about 250 homeless in the Miami Fort Lauderdale area.
