Weather Bureau notes arid spell and Linden Hills plant talks
The Weather Bureau forecast little or no rain in the eastern half of the nation for five days and subnormal rainfall for the next 30 days. In Linden Hills, a proposed regional office would create 300 jobs, with locals filling all positions eventually. Residents debated traffic impacts and zoning as aldermen approved the plant location under certain conditions. A separate city council session opened with bills paid and church invocation. In Washington, House Judiciary Democrats line up retreat on civil rights bill, signaling support for a narrower measure.

Linden Hills rezoned for State Farm regional offices
The Frederick Board of Aldermen unanimously rezoned over 11 acres in Linden Hills for State Farm Mutual Insurance regional offices. Residents cited traffic concerns. Alderman Shipley's motion urged traffic improvements and street extensions toward U.S. Route 40. City officials expect a traffic light at West Patrick Street and Linden Avenue, with state officials pressured to fund or approve. Edwin E. Weller Jr., State Farm, indicated 300 new positions would be created at the Charlottesville office and relocated operations may follow.
