The Frederick Board of Aldermen awarded the Westbrook bridge and West Second street extension to N W Etzler Company for 103357 after a four to one vote. Dissenting Alder man Bartgis opposed citing traffic and safety concerns for Westbrook residents who fought the project. The package includes extending West Second to Rosemont and linking Magnolia and Fairview avenues, plus creek relocation and a Baker Park extension. Three bids were received with Wolfe Brothers at 108474.44 and Richard F Kline at 115725.53. The board also approved contracts for rough grading in College Estates, curb and paving in Carrollton, and other actions including zoning hearings and staffing changes.

Graceham Volunteer Fire Company lost admission to the Frederick County Firemen's Association by a 40 to 25 vote at the New Midway Fire Hall. The group to seek county funds for a Central Fire Board, powered by radio, with about 100 firemen present. Graceham’s case may still progress toward county and state association admittance as the controversy over the split community court action continues. A central board would ease mutual aid. a radio system could cost less than a $10,000 yearly telephone setup. The next meeting is January 16.
