Tabler Holds Out Hope For Road Repairs In Maryland
Frederick county officials and the State Roads Commission held a two hour meeting at the Key Hotel to discuss annual construction and maintenance plans for Frederick. Dr Homer Tabler said new work for next year includes a mile on the Brunswick Point of Rocks road and sections on Middletown Jefferson Foxville and Woodsboro Libertytown roads with a potential $30,000 federal allocation shifted to Foxville Washington county link. Maintenance will use $139,000 with $21,000 for towns, leaving $118,000 for farm to market work and bridge repair. Tabler noted $113,000 is small for 1293 miles of roads and emphasized cooperation within statutory limits. He also said the state isn’t in the banking business and rejected county use as an independent contractor or extra levies beyond legislative allocations.

Funeral Tuesday For Former Grand Master Livingston
George W. Livingston, former Grand Master of Masons in Maryland, died Saturday at his home in Baltimore. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM from 5210 Edmondson Avenue with burial at Lon don Park cemetery. He visited Columbia and Lynch Lodges during his two year term and preceded current Grand Master Harry B. Wright.

Assessment Of City Property Begins Nov 1
Preparations for starting the Frederick city property assessment on November 1 began in the office of Supervisor of Assessments Alfred W. Gaver with copying of cards for assessors. Seven districts, mainly in the south county, have completed surveys of newly constructed buildings on the outskirts of Frederick by associate assessors Grayson H Mercer and Ernest C Speaks. All assessed property will be listed with the County Commissioners before November 1 for the 1938 levy, and work after finality will apply to the 1939 levy. An assessment book was assigned to clerks Mildred Wolfe, S Elmer Brown, C Merle Dixon, Alvie Metzler, and Slaford Sawyer. Brown expects a three day week, others will fill needed time.
