Fort Detrick Directors Launch 1964 United Appeal Drive
At a September meeting in the Post Theater Col. Vincent L. Rowet urged Fort Detrick personnel to pursue 100 percent participation in the United Appeal. He cited a drop in participation to 83 percent from 92 percent and argued for everyone to assess their fair share. George A. Zeigler emphasized community giving over taxation, while John R. Cheatham set confidence that the Frederick County goal of 146000 could be met as area incomes rise. Also noted was a renovation of the Officers' Open Mess under Commander Leon P. Eisman led by a group of club members.
