Daly's Insurance Center Closes Local Agency
Frederick's Daly's Insurance Center folds along with other Daly agencies. Manager Kenneth Work says all insured remain with their companies and can pay or inquire at the old South Market Street office or by mail. About 600 to 800 local policyholders are affected. Work plans to start his own agency next month. National Insurance Company's closure last March contributed to the decline. Daly centers also had locations in Washington, Baltimore, and Annapolis.

Four Held For Grand Jury Action In Local Case
Four defendants were ordered held for grand jury action after preliminary hearings in Magistrate's Court. Chester LeRoy Stone, 19, East Sixth Street, charged with two counts of breaking and entering and one of larceny. James F Purnell, 42, Hagerstown, breaking and entering and larceny. William Harrison Purnell, 41, Martinsburg W Va, breaking and entering and larceny. William Lester Timpson, (Yainsville) carn al knowledge. Staley Grimes testified cash and cigarettes worth 92.80 were taken from Lewistown Service Center. Stone allegedly identified in cabin break-in and service station robbery. Par nells charged with breaking into Yost's Diner and stealing 16.05 from machines. Yost testified seeing them near the diner and their car after midnight. Both Purnells gave statements admitting entry and robbery.

A Wednesday night crash on Old Frederick road south of Creagerstown killed Lawrence Bare 22 of Mountaindale and injured four Thurmont teens including Gary Lee Gray 18 Susie Clabaugh 16 Bonnie Miller 17 and Douglas Ecker 17. Police say Gray sped through a sharp turn hitting poles and demolishing a 1959 two door hard top while all victims were transported by Thurmont American Legion ambulance.
