Frederick Barrack B of the Maryland State Police issues a monthly report citing rising highway fatalities in Frederick County. In September four people died in four crashes on Md 194 Md 355 Md 75 and I 70 with speed a major factor in three. Nine months into 1970 fatalities reach 18 vs 22 last year. The plan includes 24 hour radar, unidentified patrol cars on high accident routes, strict motor vehicle law enforcement, and selective enforcement during peak hours. Cigarette Smugglers Arrested in Pennsylvania
Two Pittsburgh men, James Thomas Hanley and William Jesse PDecarawan, were arrested on U S 15 for transporting 13 510 untaxed cigarette packs across state lines. Officer Pilch said untaxed cigarettes bought in southern states move to northern markets with 40 to 50 cent street price, yielding 10 to 20 cent profits per pack. The seized cigarettes carried an estimated $2 500 to $4 000 in profits.
