Migrant Ministry Reports Summer Work and Health Aid

Lutheran Women Plan Meeting in Frederick District
The first full assembly of the Frederick District Lutheran Church Women is set for next Wednesday at Woodsboro Lutheran Church. About 100 to 150 women are expected to attend the theme Changing is Learning, Learning is Changing with workshops led by Maryland Lutheran Church Women officers. Registration runs 4:45 to 5:25 p.m. followed by a fellowship dinner, then an evening session at 6:45 led by Mrs. John L. Barnes. Rev. Donald A. Haas will lead devotions. Mrs. Albert R. Fischer will address attendees and lead a workshop. A brief business meeting will follow. Each congregation should send four women to cover four workshops. The assembly ends at 10 p.m.

Local Man Seriously Injured In Md 26 Crash
Dennis Walter Prior, 21, of New Design Road in Frederick, was thrown from his 1961 Valiant station wagon after failing to make a left turn on Md 26 near the U S 15 intersection. He suffered severe skull and arm lacerations with possible internal injuries and was in shock at Frederick Memorial Hospital. The car overturned and damaged the vehicle was worth about $700. State Police Trooper Gordon H. Smith led the investigation with assistance from Trooper Edward W. Lennox and Cpl. Robert T. Storer. Charges pending.

Neighbor Delivers Early Alarm In Thurmont House Fire
A neighbor awakening the family and triggering the alarm saved the residence of Mrs. Grace Freeze on Moser Road south of Thurmont. Mrs. Reed Miller reported the fire to Guardian Hose Company at about 2 am. Damage estimated at 2500 dollars, with Firemen noting the west end of the house burned from a chimney area. No injuries were reported.

Fire Prevention Is Year Round Urged By Frederick Fire Chiefs
Frederick fire captains urge residents to stay fire conscious during National Fire Prevention Week. City fire companies Citizens Independents Juniors and Uniteds reported 192 fire calls from January to March with Uniteds on 82 Juniors 57 Independents 53. General alarms totaled 19 including one false, with 10 at businesses and nine at private homes. Uniteds led private alarms with 63 followed by Juniors 38 and Independents 34. Citizens Truck handles all fires needing ladders. March had the most fires this year, followed by January April and July, with automobile and house fires including chimneys and stoves being most common.
