Steel Workers In Wage Talks Signal Early Negotiations
United Steelworkers CIO President Philip Murray leads wage talks set to begin tomorrow with major firms including Jones and Laughlin in Pittsburgh. Murray seeks a rise above current averages of 1.70 an hour and hints at a substantial increase, while firms like Bethlehem and U S Steel respond with cautious plans. Inland Steel in Chicago also shows willingness but warns reopening could threaten contract stability. The union plans to push a factual case for increases, with a potential strike if no deal by December 31.

VFW commander Charles Ralls alleged a program by the Extension Service to supply UN flag kits to 4-H and women's farm clubs and urge members to become modern Betsy.
