The 29th annual session of the General Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church opened in Norristown Pennsylvania with about 150 delegates representing synods across the United States and Canada. Rev Thomas E Schmank was elected president and Rev Dr M C Ranseen of Chicago presided. The gathering noted Pope Leo XII's death and Prusias election while commenting on Rome's influence amid U S church state separation. Williams Hall at Lehigh University was dedicated at a cost of $100000 with remarks by Prof E H Williams Jr, Dr Raymond, and Dr Crown.
