Devastating tornadoes struck near Hamilton Greenwood county and Aliceville Coffey county Kansas. Three people killed outright and two fatally hurt while fourteen others suffered serious injuries. Coal Company Enjoined From Blasting Near Water Barrier

Wilkes Barre Pa Oct 8 A preliminary injunction has been granted to Mine Inspector Boyle against the Avoca Coal Company restraining blasting that would threaten a large pillar between Avoca workings and the Landill colliery of the Delaware and Hudson Coal Company. Officials say stopping the blast preserves a barrier holding more than 20 million gallons of water behind it, preventing possible loss of life and roof caving if the water enters Laucliff workings.

Nearly Sunk Torpedo Boat Shark Rammed Dahlgren

The submarine torpedo boat Shark rammed the Dahlgren during a trial near Greenport New York on October 4. Seven Dahlgren crewmen escaped sinking as water flooded the ship after the impact. Shark lost only minor paint from its ram bow. Lieutenant Nelson attributed the incident to strong ebb tide making Shark briefly uncontrollable.
