Farmers Misunderstand Farm Tax Dates Causing Penalties
Maryland and DC IRS official Irving Machiz says some farmers wrongfully face penalties for not filing Estimated Tax or timely returns. The error stems from misreporting farm rental income on the Farm 1040 and confusion over due dates changed by the Tax Reform Act of 1969. Farmers with two thirds income from farming should file Form 4177F by March 2, 1970, to avoid penalties. others may still owe estimated tax penalties.
