Bickford Battles Heat and Waves On The Storm Set

Hollywood Oct 2-3 Cor correspondent Charles Bickford sat on a dressing room step nursing a headache amid 130 degree lights. He shouted at passers by and waited for a phone call while filming The Storm aboard a ship set where 6000 gallon waves and roaring wind machines tested actors. Five oil skinned players fought the wreckage as a 12 ton wave battered the deck and a knee driven through a hatch underscored the danger. The hurricane scenes cost 80000 dollars and may rise as production continues. Bickford, famed for blunt talk, derided Valley of the Giants and hinted at future projects despite a career of violence on screen.
