Rats Continue to Shape Frederick Zoning for New Mall

A large shopping center on Route 40 west of Frederick moves forward as zoning allows housing for about 1,000 residents and enables utilities to cross state property. Frederick officials received updates from Shopco Development and Frederick Mall Associates, formed as a Maryland limited partnership, with plans to install utilities under Route 40 pending state drainage approval. The council also approved limited use for Baker Park by the United Presbyterian Church Youth Club, denied rezoning for a Lee Place doctor’s office, and referred 25 acres of the former Reeder Farm to the Planning Commission for possible rezoning. Major Main noted police coverage for school crossings, while William J. Davis was saluted for 35 years as water department supervisor. Bills totaling 10,502 dollars were approved for payment, and city aldermen were named to the Traffic and Parking Committee with Major Main joining ex officio.
