Frederick County Commissioners approved a Board of Education request to transfer 16 496 from Green Valley School construction to Myersville School. Transfers require county approval under state law. The move follows bids showing Green Valley under budget and Myersville over.
A yellow topped parrot escapes from Motter Avenue after a tree to tree chase by Frederick police. Officers Pfe Douglas Smith Pvt Cal vin Stone and others called City Shop for help and used a hook and ladder truck. The bird fled as Pvt Edgar Nicodemus climbed. it remains at large with unknown origin.
Fire calls reported in 24 hours ending at 10 a.m. responded by residents and ambulance services. A car fire occurred at 1:06 p.m. at 40 E Independents as responders assisted. Emergency and routine ambulance calls totaled five each. Call numbers 662-6333 or 663-4400 for details.

Patrolman John Burke aged 27 was shot to death in Atlantic City after stopping two men for questioning in the main business district. Burke, a K-9 officer, was killed by a shotgun blast at point blank range. his police dog Thor remained in the wagon.
Cairo reports millions of Arabs join Egyptians in a somber funeral for Gamal Abdel Nasser. Relatives and leaders, including Anwar Sadat and King Hussein, weep as his body is interred at Manshiet el Nasr mosque garden after prayers led by Sheik Mohammed Fahhan. Crowds line the funeral route, waving portraits and chanting Nasser’s name. The nation mourns a pivotal Arab world figure.
President Nixon held a two hour discussion with Marshal Tito in Belgrade and then continued to Zagreb for a planned Kumrovec visit. Tito greeted Nixon at the airport with crowds lining the streets as the two leaders weighed Middle East tensions and nonalignment policy in a high level exchange.
The Frederick County and City Taxpayers League's Steering Committee will meet in the Winchester Room at Winchester Hall on Tuesday Oct 6 at 7 30 p m. The meeting aims to select league supported candidates for the November election and outline procedures for district election actions.
Charanjit S Lohara, director at Eastalco Aluminum, becomes a U S citizen and will chair and present a paper at a Tokyo world computer conference October 8. The Frederick County native, now in Frederick, will speak on Management Information Systems and the partnership of business and machines. His work at Eastalco over 20 months redesigned services with a 13 member staff, improving payroll, maintenance, inventory, purchasing, production reports and budget control. Computers aid but do not replace human managers, Lohara says.
U S command reports 63 American combat deaths last week and 344 wounded, with total U S deaths since 1961 reaching 43,737. South Vietnamese casualties up to 246, North Vietnamese and Viet Cong deaths at 1,457 as fighting continues around Phnom Penh.
