Damascus bypass plan rejected by Montgomery County Council
After years of study the Montgomery County Council voted 7-2 to not build a Damascus bypass. The decision preserves rural character, avoids widening roads, and keeps options open for other counties while approving Damascus Boulevard in the town’s business district and the Md 124 extension alignment. Land use issues will be addressed in January and estimated bypass costs ranged from 131 to 204 million dollars.

Residents oppose Potomac Edison rate hike in PSC hearing
About 50 residents crowded a Winchester Hall hearing to protest a 7.5 percent PE rate increase before the Public Service Commission. They argued the hike outpaces inflation, funds stockholders rather than upgrades, and would add nearly $6 to a typical non heated home’s monthly bill. Activists from Countryside Electric Consumers urged denial citing poor service and lack of surge protection.
