Maryland soybean checkoff vote could create state program

Maryland may become the 21st state to adopt a soybean checkoff if producers approve a referendum on November 27 at the Frederick County Extension office. The plan, established by the Mid-Atlantic Soybean Association and certified by the state agriculture secretary, would levy one cent per bushel at the first sale point and fund research, development, and promotion.

Harold Roderuck Wins 1979 DHIA Dairy Award at Walkersville

Harold E. Roderuck, from Walkersville, received the 1979 Frederick Montgomery DHIA dairy management award at the 14th annual meeting held last week at the Walkersville Fire Hall. He was top scorer in the Frederick-Montgomery area based on breeding and production records, as ten-herd owners were honored for greatest production gains in 1979. Also named were the new board members Tom Remsberg, Caroline Zecher, Joel Anderson, and Wayne Savage. A proposed monthly somatic cell counting program drew little support, with members tabling the discussion.
