Salvage Prize Awarded to Omaha Somers Sailors
Navy crew from the cruiser Omaha and the destroyer Somers who boarded the German freighter Odenwald near Brazil six years ago, then towed it to San Juan, split a 322 21116 salvage award totaling 12421 dollars. 51 officers and 829 men shared the payout for the ship and cargo, while the court notes outdated addresses hinder payment to several of the 53,000 winners.
