Dr Charles Longer of Washington forfeited 100 collateral plus costs in Peoples Court for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence after a collision on Route 210 near Frederick Saturday around 7 10 PM. His car, traveling south, struck a northbound vehicle driven by Rosetta Bowie of Dickerson. Bowie’s car hit a guard rail and the dentist’s car stopped with the front wheel broken. No injuries were reported.

Survivors Rescued From Wrecked Langleecrag Off Sacred Island
In November 1947 the British freighter Empire MacCalum began rescuing survivors from the wrecked Langleecrag after a five day marooning on Sacred Island off Newfoundland. About 30 to 44 seamen endured icy rain and heavy seas before one man was reported lost when the ship broke apart. The Empire MacCalum and three other rescue ships arrived around 1 am and stayed until daylight to take aboard the crew men.

Two Paper Chute Fires At Ford Dearborn Plant
Detroit reports two paper chute fires at the Ford Motor Company Dearborn plant damaged the four story administration building. Five people were overcome by smoke and fire chief Stanley Herdzik was injured in a fall.
