Frederick County earns above average marks on state report card

Frederick County public schools received ratings from satisfactory to excellent on Maryland's fourth annual School Performance Report. About 97 percent passed the four part functional test. attendance reached 92.7 percent for grades 7 to 12, with a record low dropout rate of 1.79 percent. Ninth and junior high students posted high pass rates in reading and writing, and most categories exceeded state averages.

Mixed verdict in fatal crash case Broberg found guilty on one count

A Frederick County jury returned a mixed verdict in the Thomas Blank Jr. traffic death case. Paul Everett Broberg, 27, was acquitted of manslaughter by vehicle and convicted of homicide by vehicle while intoxicated. He faced up to five years on the remaining charges, while the maximum for the manslaughter charge was ten years. The trial drew crowds from both families and Frederick Christian Academy students.
