Votes To Keep $1.25 License In Maryland

Baltimore reports the Legislative Council rejected a proposal to raise Maryland resident hunting licenses from $1.25 to $1.75. The plan drew support from the State Farm Bureau and many sportsmen groups, while the Budget and Finance Committee opposed it. Delegate Boone urged a future resubmission. The decision delays funding for game-restoration programs and affects enforcement and transfers of game, trapping in restricted areas, and transporting game to hunter-accessible regions. Nonresident licenses rose to $20. state-wide license unchanged at $1.25 for residents. The council also tabled retirement coverage for some employees and approved health department restructuring and licensing fund transfers.
