Topeka Kan Nov 123 Franklin Thompson the negro leader of a federal prison mutiny was captured eight miles north of Council Grove after a hard fight. He was shot in the head but not seriously injured. Thompson taken back to the penitentiary and authorities warn of further depredations in the area. This year’s corn yield is the lowest on record with 16.4 bushels per acre statewide, Kansas at 7.8 and Nebraska 14.1.
In Philadelphia a gas cylinder exploded at the Liberty Chemical company on Sydenham street near Cumberland, badly injuring four girls and engineer Edward Weyandt. The building was wrecked and losses reach about 50000 dollars. The injured were Misa A M Grebe Anns Grebe Kate Drexler Stellan Mael and Edward Weyandt. The incident occurred as workers on the second floor attempted to escape the blast.
Harry M. White, once a New Castle levy court member, was arrested in Wilmington on a $20 larceny charge. He waived a hearing before Magistrate Hollis and is held on $1,900 bail for the general sessions court. The case hints at long-running county thefts and possible sensational developments.
