Maryland survey shows broad tolerance but calls for action on violence

A Governor’s Task Force survey of 532 Marylanders finds strong opposition to racial and religious bigotry and desire for legal steps to curb violence such as cross burnings and desecration of churches. Maryland residents express greater tolerance than the national average on segregation and interracial marriage, while whites and blacks report similar views on traits like dependability and ambition.

MIT Tops List of Expensive Colleges in New Guides

AP reports MIT leads two college guides for cost, with annual totals around 12,250 to 13,500 dollars. Cooper Union in New York is highlighted as the least expensive, funded by a large endowment. Other costly schools include Harvard Radcliffe, Yale, Pennsylvania, and Barnard, while nine least expensive options are public universities and smaller colleges. MIT notes that high costs can deter applicants, though admission offers from MIT remain stable.

Saturday Review to be revived in Missouri by Jeff Gluck

Jeff Gluck 29-year-old publisher of Missouri Life magazine says he will revive the Saturday Review by buying the 58-year-old magazine. He plans to move offices from New York City to Columbia and form a private corporation to own the title. Norman Cousins will stay as lead columnist and editor emeritus, with court approval expected within about 10 days. Gluck says changes are unlikely and creditors have been in talks as the purchase proceeds. The prior owner Macro Communications had run the magazine, which cost about 20 over the last decade. Pluto remains the most distant and cold planet, small due to a close moon.
