Hooded Klan factions clash over aims in North Carolina
In Greensboro a patchwork of Klan factions and allied extremists face internal feuds as the FBI probes after six or seven groups linked to the Ku Klux Klan operate across North Carolina. Seven to nine suspects, including Nazis, are tied to a weekend shooting at a leftist rally that killed five organizers and wounded nine. Police say most suspects are Western North Carolina Klan members, with leaders and factions named from Winston-Salem to Gastonia and Raleigh. The violence follows months of increased Klan visibility and rivalries among groups such as the United Klans of America, Federated Knights, Invisible Empire, and Confederation of Independent Orders.
