City cabbies push 25 percent fare rise in Frederick

Frederick taxi owners asked city leaders to permit about a 25 percent fare increase. Mayor Ronald N. Young called the proposal reasonable and said it will go before the Board of Aldermen tonight. He cited soaring gas prices and noted fares have stayed nearly the same. The mayor declined comment on the Frederick Police Officers Association dispute and possible unionization, saying he has not received POA communications. Chief Richard J. Ashton predicted some officers will still attend the Thanksgiving dinner despite the POA boycott as an expression of dissatisfaction with recognition.
