Cattle Producers See Better Financial Prospects
Washington reports USDA outlook showing higher corn acreage and better pasture growth lift cattle producers. Fed cattle prices rebounded to the low 60s in May after a drop to mid 50s last spring, with retail beef prices easing and expected to average about 2.75 per pound this spring. Strong grain supplies and government support are seen aiding production, with beef output expected to rise modestly in 1996 and 1997, and exports forecast to improve.
