Maryland Leads U S in Farmland Preservation Effort
Maryland has surpassed 100000 acres of development right easements since 1981, with Carroll County totaling 38048 acres and Caroline 31500 acres. The program, created in 1977 and funded at about 102.2 million, restricts land to keep farms intact, with buyers unable to develop the land for 25 years and possible repurchase after 25 years under strict rules.
